HAURAKI PLAINS SHOW.
DATE FIXED FOR FEBRUARY 18. The Executive Committee of the Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association met in the Ngatea Hall on Wednesday, Mr P. R. Henry presiding over the following: Mes|||| J. Munro, J. H. Nicholson, J. H. CSiMI ter, Halliburton Johnstone, D. G. McMillan, C. W. Harris, and E. Walton (secretary). With regard to the purchase bf'land at Kerepeehi Mr Walton reported that the Commissioner of Crown Lands was pushing on the'proclamation of the lanttjxThe 754 acres offered woiil 1 cost £550. Messrs Miller and Son’s clients were agreeable to lend £l3OO. A general meeting was necessary to authorise the purchase of the land, and this had been called for January A Mr Carter, on behalf of the Grounds * Committee, reported very favourably on the present showgrounds at Ngatea, while Mr Nicholson suggested several improvements. The meeting endorsed the Grounds Committee’s report. ' i In connection with the forthcoming show the committee, after considering the tides and dates of other fixtures, decided to hold the next show at Ngatea on Saturday, February 18. The appointment ofl a schedule committee resulted as follows: Messrs Henry, McMillan, Carter, Rowntree, and Nicholson. Mn W. J. Hall, of Matatoki, would bp4nvited to advise the Schedule Committee.
The following were appointed chief stewards:• Messrs J. H.. Nicholson (horses), L. Rowntree (cattle), H. N. Norris (horticulture), W. G. Hayward (grounds), and the following were appointed a canvassing committee : Messrs P. R. Henry, Halliburton Johnstone, and E. Walton. The date of closing of entries, ; pn. Mr Munro’s suggestion, was altered from 12 days to 14 days prior io the. show. « It was decided to invite the children of all the schools in. the districts to the show and to issue free passes to them. z - STRIVING FOR SUCCESS. That the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association intends to make their forthcoming show on February 18 : a complete success is evidenced in circulars which have been sent to the district representatives appointed at Wednesday’s meeting. The secretary, Mr E. Walton, is displaying great enthusiasm in his'work, and in the circulars points out that the show depends for its success in a great measure on its popularity, which is to be attained chiefly through the favourable expressions of opinion of persons of standing. It is assured that the hearty support of each centre will materially appreciate its prospect?. Various ways of helping were ed out, including efforts to enlarge the membership, giving the show ;as much publicity as possible, and assisting exhibitors with their entries, which close on February 4,
