The riext issue of the “Gazette” will be oh Friday, December 30. and the following one on Wednesday, January 4,. These arrangements are made in order to give the various members of the. staff their annual holidays. Replace canno.t be accepted for the two issues mentioned, as we will be working shorthanded. Dr. Jensen is the successful appli-i cant for the position of veterinary surgeon to the Hauraki Plains veterinary Club. The Hauraki Plains Agricultural and Pastoral Association has fixed Saturday, February 18, fpr its next Show, entries closing on February 4. The time-table for the PaeroaHauraki Plains daily mail service is published in the “ Gazette ” to-day. The service commences on Tuesdav, 3rd January. The acceptance of the tender of Messrs Anchor and CO4 £5298, for the No. 2 area, Paeroa Borough drainage contract, the work to be finished within four months, will mean a substann tion improvement in the health conditions of the town. With sewerage added to the existing water and light services, Paeroa will become a more desirable place to live in. The Council had considerable discussion in committee before any tender was accepted. The highest figure was £8290.
The Christmas Festival, will be observed with special services at Sc. Paul’s Church. There will be two celebrations of the Holy Communion, the first being at 8 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m. The latter service will be a sung Eucharist. In the evening there will be choral evensong and sermon, followed by a short service of Christmas music, , comprising carols, the solp “Nazareth,” and the playing pf the “Pastoral Symphony” on the organ. The Salvation Army Brass Ban! commenced its Christmas carolling on Wednesday' night. The homes o' the Paeroa borough- councillors had been chosen as the places to visit, consequently the first visit was paid to the Mayor’s residence, where, after playing a few tunes:, the members of the band were hospitably entertained by Mrs Brenan. At each stand sev-, er al tunes were played by the band. It therefore meant, in order to reach all those who had been acquainted that the band would be coming, playing until 11.30 p.m. To all those who in any way contributed to the success of the venture the sincere thanks of the band are tendered.
The necessity of the repainting, and retarring of the Criterion bridge was pointed out to the Ohinemuri County Council by Mr L. May, district engineer for the Public Works Department, in a letter which came before the Council on Wednesday. The chairman, Cr. A. A. RObinson, said he thought it was the bridge near, the Criterion Hotel that was referred to, and it was decided to inform Mr May that this bridge was under the control pf the Paeroa Borough Council. The bridge referred to is over the Ohinemuri River,#
