HIGH SCHOOL FUNCTION.
THE NEW WING. OFFICIAL OPENING, FRIDAY. Another mile-post in the educational jiistory of Paeroa and district will be reached on Friday, when the official opening of the new wing of the Technical High School will take place. The function', at which j many leading public men will be pre- J sent, will take 'the form of a great gala afternoon, when stalls, games, and a variety of entertainment will be provided for the interest of the public.
A meeting of the entertainment committee was (held on Monday night to make final arrangements, the chaiiman of the School Committee, Mr . Pascoe, presiding.. . ' The Hon. C. J. Parr regretted, owing to Parliament being in session, not being abje to attend. A similar reply was received from the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, Prime Minister. Mr Hugh Poland, M.P., signified his intention .to be present. The following is a synopsis of, the programme: Boys’ drill, girls’ danc- j ing Maori songs, basket ball, over- fl (head ball games, putting competitions. infants’ games, nail-driving, exhibition of work, recitations, stalls.
etc., etc. The official ceremony portion will start at 1 p.m., and the enterltainment will commence immediately after and continue all afternoon.
The following stalls are arranged for: Variety stall, in charge of Mrs G. H. Taylor; jumble stall, Mr Wilks and Miss Sutton ; afternoon tea, Misses Shaw, Whitten, Sargood, and Nathan';*" sweets, Misses Gibson and Whitten; flower stall, Misses Me Caskill and McLeod.
It is stated that about 70 boys will take part in tjhe drill. The. Maori singing should be a splendid item, the performers, who will appear in costume, having had some very excellent rebeasals.
It was agreed unanimously that the people of ail the outlying districts shoud be invited to attend. GIFTS WANTED. The undermentioned is a list of some of the gifts .wanted for dispos il at. the bazaar and subsequent auction sale. If (those who may not find it convenient to bring .their gifts along personally will kindly notify the secretary (Mr Jas. Couper) or the headmaster (Mr G. H. Taylor), arrangement will be made to call for the articles : Christmas turkeys, geese,' or other poultry, sucking pigs, porkers, lambs, eggs, potatoes, hams and bacon, flowers and frui't, gopseberries, strawberries, cream and butter, cakes, pastry, shortbread, books, magazines, toys, flower pots and >1 ants, preserves, . jam., etc., ornaments, cushions, table-centres, and other fancywork.. .V ■ '
