HAURAKI DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF THE BOARD. The November meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was held at Tu rua on Thursday, the following attending: Messrs G. Gray (chairman), R. H. Heappey, P. Baker, D. G. McMillan J.. Mules, and J. E. Green (secretary).. ' Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., had telegraphed the board that the Minister had approved of the payment of a subsidy totalling £595 for work done by' the board. The Chief Drainage Engineer was being directed to arrange for -payment at an early date. Mr Green explained that the £595 would be distributed among the following areas: Waitekauri (£400), Waihou (£145), and Wharepoa (£5O). A letter was received from Mr B. Dunlop, settlers and representatives on the Thames Valley Reference Board, asking that board to assist with a small donation to help pay the solicitor representing tjhe settlers at the Rivers Commission. On the motion of) Messrs Baker and McMillan it was decided tp donate £5 5s as payment for the legal representation. On the motion of Messrs McMillan and Baker it was decided to refund to Mr G. Gray the sum of £6 4s lOd in respect tp 32 acres being included in the Board’s area in error. It was decided that the installing of a floodgate a,t Lindsay’s outlet should be arranged by Mr McConnell Io be done on contract, and that Mr McConnell should obtain all material with the exception .of the floodgate, which was at present in possession of the board. It was also resolved that the rehanging of a gate at Carter’s corner be left to Mr Heappey and Ithe foreman. Mr McConnell was authorised to clean out and lock the whole of the floodgates. FOREMAN’S REPORT. The following report for October was submitted tp the Hauraki Drainage Board by the foreman, Mr J. McConnell : “During the month the floodgates have Shad to be attended to almost daily on account of the heavy rains which, we have had', bringing down weeds, timber, and rubbish. “ I have had the weeds taken out of the Mongonui Nd. 1 from the gate to the main road, and I have a man at present pulling weeds out of the Turua-Nethertpn roadside drain, this drain having a mass of growth in it from the end of the road; “ The fencing of the T,e Kauri No. 2 drain was completed on the 30th of last month on Mr McMillan’s side of the drain, but up to the present no material (has come to hand to erect a fence on Mr K. Fox’s side. “The grading at the back of ten chains drain running from Daily’s outlet eastwards has been completed, and I erected a two-wire fence along
this portion to protect same. “ The following works should be pushed ahead when the weather improves and the water goes down in the drains. “ A grating wall, also a flume wall, on Te Kauri No. 2, the floodgate between Watene’s and Lindsay’s, and the deepening of about 10 chains along Gumtown road to Mr T. Harris’ section. “ As Messrs Brown and Spencer are. having a clearing sale I think the Board should see about getting paid for the work done for them,, work which they could not do and whici Mi- Brown asked me to have done, and for which he agreed to pay. “ The mill creek has had a good flushing out this week, there being a good flow of water coming down the drain.”
