RIVER IMPROVEMENT.
COMMISSION’S REPORT. QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE, WELLINGTON, November 25. . An inquiry concerning the report of the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers Silting Commission was made by Mr H. Poland (Ohinemuri) to-day. He asked the Minister for Public Works when it was likely to be laid on the table. The statement that the cost of the works would be £625,000 had alarmed the local bodies'), and. they wanted to know what w;as th.e nature of the report and wlhat the Government intended to do. Mr Coates said that he regretted it had not been possible to lay the report on the table of the House and make its contents public before this. He could only say that tyhe steps that were being taken were in the interests 'of the local, authorities an) others concerned. As soon, as he could get further investigations made into certain masters contained in the report he would bring it before Cab-' inet, and (have it laid on the table of the House so that the information could be utilised.
