Two pen-painted cushions and one art needlework table-centre which were to have been disposed of by art union a.t the Anglican Church Bazaar, did not come to hand. The oil-painting given by Mr Evans was won by Mr W. McClinchy. Last Friday the Piako River in the vicinity of Ngatea presented a busy appearance, there being no less than three steamers, about four launches, and four barges at the two wharves. The three steamers, were s.s. Gael, s.s. Oneroa, and the Lands Deparbmenf's s.s. Hauraki. The bridge wa< raised six times during the clay. The increasing number of vessels plying up and down the river points to the fact that the river trade on the Hauraki Plains is increasing rapidly.
