PAEROA-POKENO RAILWAY

DISCUSSION AT NGATEA. AWAIT PARLIAMENTARY VISIT. The proposed railway across the Hauraki Plains from Paeroa to Pokeno was a subject for discussion at the farmers’ re-union at Ngatea on Saturday evening, Mr W. G. Hayward presiding. Mr J. Munro said he had come to further the interests of the PaeroaPokeno railway. It was not a selfish purpose, but for the benefit of the whole of ,the Plains. He asked Morrinsville visitors to assist. The Netherton branch had been in favour of it as it would relieve them in the metal question. Metal was costing too much, and the Plains wanted all the metal, it could get. Mr Thomas said a meeting had been held in Morrinsvil’le with the object of getting a Parliamentary tour of the Hauraki Plains. That would be an opportunity of expressing the needs of the district. “Give them a little entertainment,” he concluded, “and send them away in a good humour.”

Mr Hayward asked what route the M’s.P. would take. Mr Thomas said it would be arranged by the committee. Mr Johnstone interjected: Thames will not help at all, but Paeroa will help in any way. Mr McAlpine said the joint sec retaries of the committee were both Paeroa men.
