(“Gazette” Staff Reporter.) NGATEA. '' THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the Ngatek School Committ.ee was held in the schoolhouse last week, the following being present : Messis W. McDuff (chairman), G. T. Davidson, W. Clare, and C. W. .Shultz (secretary); The Education Board had notified the committee that a permanent headmaster must be appointed for 1 the school. It was decided to request the Board to appoint tfie present headmaster, Mr E. Macken, a -Ahe permanent master. A discussion arose regarding the recent deputation to the school inspector with a request for a larger school... The secretary was instructed to write to the Board and ask if it had received the report of tKe inspector with regard to the st nopl overcrowding. . Mr W. J; Byrne, of Paeroa, has consented to give a demonstration on judging dairy stock to the boys of the school!, and it was res.olved to ask the show authorities to donate a prize for a competition in this class of work. HIKUTAIA. Both timber mills at Hikutaia— Wire’s and Maratbtcp-are how cutting timber, seven trucks of which were despatched during the past month. Ballast for the Louis Theriault, which is at present taking in ballast at Kopu, is being, taken down stream from a point, .above the Whareppa ferry by Miessrs Kerby and Co.’s launches. The Louis Theriault is shortly to leave for Newcastle, where she will load another shipment of poles. MATATOKI. NEW FARMERS’ BODY. At the meetig of the Matatoki Farmers’ Union last week Mr A. E. Fear, Dominion organiser of the New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union, gave, an. address on the aims and objects of the body which he represented. It is quite probable' that a branch will be formed there.
