PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
CONGREGATIONAL MEETING. The annual congregational meeting of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was held in the church last week. Owing to t.he ijicjemency of the weather the gathering was small. The minister, the Rev. Frank McDonald, presided. The Session report as presented by the session clerk, Mr Jas. Mclntyre, showed increased attendances, at the services. Special mention was made' to the success of the recently opened station at Netherton, this branch of the work bidding fair to be the strongest. The report as presented from the Management Committee by the church secretary, Mr James Couper, commented upon the steady progress over the year.
Outside of the installing of electric light throughout the church and manse and a few minor repairs there had been little activity in that direction. The erection of the hall, sanctioned by the special congregational meeting, had not been, proceeded with, but its erection would be the committee’s first consideration of tire many items that were to be dealt with during the coming year. Reports from Mrs> D. Craig, actingsecretary of the P.W.M.U., and from the Sunday school superintendent showed both these branches to be progressing favourably. The financial statement as presented •by the treasurer, Mr Henry Stevens, showed a very satisfactory position, the expenditure, £5OB Os sd, leaving a credit balance of £79 ss. This balance, however, would be absorbed in meeting the expense of the ’electric installation. The treasurer pointed out that though the revenue showed to good advantage, it had been considerably augmented by the inclusion in receipts of an amount owing by the church property trustees which had be.en paid during the year.
Good progress had been made with the establishment of the Sustentation Fund and all members were appealed to to enrol.
The meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the various organisations, after which the members assembled were entertained to supper by the members of the Ladies’ Guild.
