MOATHLY MEETING. \ ■ The monthly meeting of the Hankaki Plains County Council was held at Ngatea on Monday, The members are: Crs. J. C. Miil,er (chairman), G. Death, A. Chatfield, F.' Mayn, T. McLoughlin,. E. 11. Whitechurch, C. W. Parfitt, W. G. Hayward, ,C. W. Harris.' The clerk, Mr* E. Walton, and the engineer, Mr R. J. Dillon,, were in at tendance. IMPOUNDED CATTLE.. Mr A. J. McDonald, Pate.tonga, asked the Council to pay him the proceeds of the sale of seven cattle oi his which were impounded and. sold. He considered himself entitled to thte, less impounding and sale charges.— Hehl over for report from poundkeeper. PATETONGA ASSOCIATION. The Patetonga Settlei's and jßatepayers’ Association fisked.,.for regular copies of the minutes of meetings. It'also wanted to know who the commissioners were now enquiring into the Hauraki drainage area. The clerk replied th it Here were no such commissioners, and the council decided that the settlers ’could come in and see ; the minutes, but copies could not be sent... WILSON’S ROAD CULVERT. On the motion of. Cr. Death it was decided tp put in concrete culverts at each end of Wilson’s road, anil i that drains be put in on Fisher’s J Road, being extensions fr'pm those from Buchanan’s property.

MANGATARATA REQUEST. Mr Robert Sexton, of Mangatarata, asked for a remission/of rates, £l3 12s Bd, which had accrued on his property during the war. He understood that such rates, in the case of men like himself, who had been on active service, were to have been written off.—Agreed to. RESUBMISSION OF LOAN. .Messrs Campbell, Russell, and McVeagh advised the Council that there, was no Statutory, or other restriction against re-submittnig the loan proposal right away.,—Received. WAITAKARURU-MORRINSVILLE The Minister for Lands (Hoh. D. H. Guthrie) acknowledged the Council’s application for a grant towards the cost, of maintenance of the abovenamed road, and promised to write further in a position to dp so. He was . obtaining a report.—Received 1 . PROPOSED PIPIROA BRIDGE. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. J. G. Coates), replying .to ,a request by the Council for a plan of the proposed Pipiroa bridge, promised to make inquiries and write again as soon ,as possible.—Received. KEREPEEHI REQUEST. The secretary of the Kerepeehi branch of the N.Z, Farmers'’ Union (Mr N. P. Aro) wro.te asking the" Council to clear the. blackberries and fescue off the cAunty roads before these pests spread further. Although fescue was not gazetted as a noxious weed, it was a menace to the Plains, and might become more troublesome

Cr, Death it was decided to ask the Government to declare tall fescue a noxious weed under the Act, for the Hauraki Plains County. Cr. Parfitt moved that the alien--tion of the-inspector be drawn-.to the noxious tweeds on the Government roads on the Plains,, particularly foxglove and gorse, IMPOUNDING. The Chief Drainage Engineer, Mr J.. B. Thompson, wrote giving permission for the impounding by the Cputaty ranger of stock wandering on the Crown lands roads., Mr H. M. Skeet, Commissioner of Crown Lands, gave similar permission in respect to Pa'tetonga and Ngatea. —Received. ' ' A ROAD WANTED. Mr E. C. Barriball’s solicitors asked for! permission to .take a rpad through Miller’s section by the Commissioner, and the. dedication of the other portion of the road by Mr Barriball.. The clerk expressed doubt as to what powers the ' Council had ove ? Government roads.. He thought a qualified opinion on the matter should be secured. —Agreed to. COUNTIES’ ASSOCIATION, It was decided ,to join the New Zealand Counties’ Association, such a course having several advantages. TIMBER CARTAGE. Mr Leslie Clotworthy asked permission to cart timber on Fisher’s Road in the Netherton riding. He would

make good any damage tp the roads. —Agreed to, on the necessary bond •being forthcoming.
