DAIRYING INDUSTRY.
IMPROVED WITH BETTER STOCK. BRIGHT PROSPECTS OF PLAINS. * \ / It is an acknowledged fact that the introduction of a better class of stock among dairy herds greatly increases the milk supply and improves the 'tests. This fact has been evidenced at the Huirau Road factory. There are five suppliers less this season than at a similar period last year, yet more milk is being supplied. The .tests also have improved from 3.1 last year to 3.8 this year. This fact is attributed to the introduction of Jersey cattle into the suppliers’ stocks. in the opinion of Mr W. Madgwick, who discussed this matter with a “Gazette” representative, the efficiency of ihe dairying industry on the Plains would increase '5O per cent, if the present herds were replaced by a better class of stock. He predicted that with better cows, and judging by-The present improvement of the land and of. the quantity of feed, the dairy industry would improve threefold. At present feed ir abundant and the pastures are in extremely good order.
