WAR TROPHIES.
NEGLECT AT TURUA. At a meeting convened at Turua some time ago, the settlers were successful, per medium of tile energetic secretary, Mr J. Gibson, -in obtaining a captured. German machine-gun. Two were .also obtained by the ..Hauraki Plains County Council.
These three trophies arrived at Turua some months ago, and after considerable effort and much correspondence a site at the post office corner was granted for the display of’ Turua’s quota- of the captured guns. Since then, however,, nothing further has been done, and when the guns arrived they were stored away in a building and have-not been touched since. The County Council has failed to collect its share, and,.the Turua people have not worried whether their memento of the Allies' victory is displayed in a prominent place or stored away from view.
