DRAINING THE PLAINS.
WORK OF NEW DREDGE.
TRIALS SUCCESSFUL.
The new dredge, the erection of which was completed at Kerepeehi last week, has undergone successful trials, but a few final adjustments must be made before the machine can be put info proper working order. It should be on regular work very shortly. .
A self-starting apparatus is to be installed on this new dredge shortly. Another rood machine, of a similar type to the one recently erected is expected to arrive before long, .while two others of a different type are at pre: ent on the site. I his makes a total of four new dredges to be set working in that district, and as there are three at present working the total number of dredges for that area will be seven.
It is understood that the Department intends to put stop-bank and road drains right round the Awaiti block.
