The Ohinemuri County Council has been fortunate in securing authorisation for the spending of £4OO, on account, for the stumping and formattion of the remaining unformed portion of the Waihi-Whangamata road, some 72 chains at the northern end. The width is 12 to 16 feet. As the work was taken in hand prior to the authorisation for payment being received, the position had become rather awkward, but is now much more satisfactory.

It is a common enough occurrence for a drunken man, or a man unlawfully having liquor in his possession, tp be arrested, but it is not often that a motor-car and load of beer is subjected to this process of the law. This, however, is what happened at Waihi last night. It appears that two men “borrowed,” without as much as “by your leave,” a taxi belonging to Mr Manning, of Thames. They then loaded the car up with the liquor. and motored from Thames to Waihi. The police at Waihi got_ onto their track and cQifiTnunicated with Thames...--When roused out of told that his car had been taken away, Mr Manning was greatly surprised and perturbed it was perfectly obvious that he knew nothing about the affair. However, the car and its contents were taken in charge by the police, and further developments may be expected.
