SOCIAL FUNCTIONS.

BOWLING CLUB’S DANCE.

zA. social and dance was given in the Victoria Hall on Friday last by the Waikino Bowling Club, in aid of funds for the Waihi Hospital. The hall has been repainted, and the floral decorations and different coloured lights gave a good effect. The function proved a, great success, there being oyer 250 present, including bowlers and friends from Waihi, Karangahake,' Thames, Paeroa, and Auckland. A good orchestra was in attendance and opened. at 8 o’clock with a waltz in which all took part The M’s.C. were Messrs W. Quin and H. Hewitt, who are to be congratulated an the able manner in which .they fulfilled their duties. At 11 p.m... the adjournment was made to supper, which was well catered for. During the two sittings the extras were played by Miss Higgs (Waihi), Miss Shaw, and Mr Cater. The function concluded at 2.30 a.m. • Great credit is due to the following ladies and gentlemen for making the function such a great success : Mesdames Banks, Johnson, Vercoe, H Hewitt, and Messrs J. H. Banks (president), Hind, Vercoe, Reed, G. Bell, and R..8e11. A PRESENTATION.

During an interval between’ the dances a presentation of a dress-case, subscribed by the citizens of Waikino, was made to Miss R. Kinsella, who is leaving here on Monday to ta take up new duties in '.the post office at Auckland. Miss' Kinsella was born in Waitekauri, and has never left this district until n.ow, and was employed in the post office for. some years, and during the absence of the postmistress she was apppihted in her place. The presentation was made on behalf of. .the citizens by Mr W. Quin amidst applause. Mr O. Whitehouse, on behalf’ of Miss Kinsella, thanked all for the kindness in giving such a splendid present prior to her leaving the township. On Friday next the Druids’ Lodge is giving a ball in aid of the Waihi Hospital funds.
