FARMERS’ UNION SOCIAL.
A most successful social was held on the 18th inst. in the Hikutaia Hall under the supervision of Messrs W. H. Alley, J. Kelly. Allan Guff, G. Avery, and the secretary, I, M. Robinson. There was a splendid attendance. The flooi’ was in first-rate order, and the music supplied by Mr A. Williams’ orchestra was a treat appreciated by all lovers of dancing. Mr F. Hill carried out the duties of M.C. The progressive euchre tournament, under the supervision of Messrs G. Avery and I. M. Robinson, was- also well patronised. The lady’s prize, a lovely, glass bowl, presented by the. Farmers’ Union, was won by Miss A. Alley and the gentleman’s prize, a silver-mounted pocket .wallet, donated by Mr Les. G. Hill, was won by Mr W. J. Norton. CHEESE SUPPLIERS. ’ A meeting of the ch,eese suppliers was held in the Hikutaia Hall. Mr F. Hanlon, chairman, explained the nature of the correspondence to the meeting, and the following, resolution was carried by a large majority:— That the suppliers are desirous of selling.'their output at ll%d if the offer is f.o.b. Auckland; and that a wire be sent to Mr Sinclair, assistant manager to .the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co., requesting him to attend the Hikutaia district and give further details. WELCOME HOME. x A quiet social evening was heliu on Saturday night in the Hikutaia Hall, the occasion being the welcome back to Hikutaia of Mr and Mrs G. Asher after their -extended .honeymoon trip. WEDDING. A very pretty wedding eventuated on August 3 at St. Matthew’s Church, Auckland, the contracting parties being Mr G. N. Asher, proprietor of the Hikutaia hairdressing saloon, youngest son of the late Mr and Mrs David Asher, Tauranga, and Agnes Mary Grew, daughtei* of Walter Dohn Grew and the late' Dorothy Grew, of Stan-ton-U-Bardon, Leicestershire, England. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Grant C.owan. • The bride looked very dainty, and was accompanied by her sister, Miss Edith Grew, as bridesmaid. The bride was given away by Mr E. Asher, and Mr F. Hill acted as best man. After the ceremony the wedding parity were entertained at a splendid wedding breakfast under the supervision of Mr L. J. B. Howie, caterer, Symond Street’ where the usual honours were toasted. The wedding presents were numerous and costly. The happy couple left on their honeymoon amidst showers of confetti on a tour cf the main trunk line and Bay of Plenty district.
