THE SOLDIERS’ BALL.
A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The plain and fancy dress masquerade ball, held last night, under.the auspices of the local Returned Soldiers’ Association, was an unqualified success, and once more proved that the theatre was not large enough “or the crowd that had assembled. The hall had been tastefully decorated with greenery and bunting and presented a brilliant spectacle with the many fancy dresses, the ladies, as is usual, predominating with their array of fancy dresses, although a goodly number of men had gone to the trouble of securing fancy costumes. The winner of the fancy costume for .the ladies was Miss Mowhatu Nicholls in the role of Maori chieftainess, and gentlemen Mr Potter as cowboy.
The supper was supplied by caterers from Te Arolia, while excellent dance music was supplied by a local orchestra.
