BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Paerp.i Benevolent Fund Society was held op Monday night.

The report ■submitted by Mr Henry T. Stevens showed that much practical assistance had been rendered during the year. While ithe cases assisted w.ere few, the prompt and effective help rendered showed the necessity for greater support to this splendid movement.

Attention was drawn to the fact that the efforts of the society had been instrumental in having many of the old insanitary hovels in the town demolished. • The statement of accounts showed subscriptions received for the year as £79.18s 2d; expenditure, £26 19s 4d, the credit balance being £52 19s lOd.

The following .were elected a committee for the new year: Messrs P E, Brenan (chairman), W. Marshall, J. Couper, A.. White, W. J. Towers, HT Stevens, and Miss Shaw. Mr Henry T. Stevens was appointed boiw secretary and treasurer.
