LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

WANDERING CATTLE.

Sir, —While I have every sympathy with attempts to beautify Paer ja I would point out to your cci responden' “Interested” that he evidences anything but a beautiful state of mind when he stigmatises all the owners of wandering cattle as “unprincipled.” We must remember that Paeroa professes to be the centre of an agricultural and pastoral district, and that strange cattle and horses are continually being domiciled fierce ; these naturally seek to escape to their old grazing grounds. In addition to Ibis we have the public saleyard's in the heart of. the town, and young cattle wi,H attempt to break away from the drovers and perhaps make havoc of the unfenced beauty spots we all’enjoy and admire. Defective fencing is also another source of trouble and danger. I have this difficulty to contend with through nb fault of my own. I feel sure that the Beautifying S' - ciety will dp wisely to adopt some form of rustic fencing around their efforts. Something more so< ialis'Jc than barbed wire.

One Of the first esseixia!s necessary to ,!he attainment of ideal municipal conditions is the posse-.S'On of a sense of beauty and justice, and ypur correspondent? I regret to say. shows no development in the dirk.:ion of having a judicial mind or an imnartirl judgment. He would nrobao’y be as strong an advocate of a cheaper milk* supply as he pretends tc be of the welfare of the Beautifying Society.’ E. N. DAVIES.
