PAEROA-POKENO LINE.
COMMENCEMENT URGED.
Speaking ai a meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce last evening Mr Davis thought the Government should be urged to construct a portion of the Paeroa-Pokeno railway to the river. Mr D. Munro said file railway had been authorised for a distance of six miles from Paeroa, towards Mr Wilson’s property. A branch of the subprovihcial executive of the N.Z.. Farmers’ Union was to meet at Turua, and the railway would be one of the subjects discussed. He would like to see the railway started from botn Paeroa and Pokeno. The new line would relieve the congestion on the present main line... The six-mile section- was authorised in 1915, in the Paeroa-Pokeno Railway Authorisation Act. He suggested that permission should be asked for the Chamber to send a delegate to the Turua meeting. Mr T. E, McMillan moved that Mr Munro be authorised to represent the Chamber at' the Turua meeting, Mr W. Kenny seconding.—Carried. Mr Munro said 95 per cent, of those who would be present at the Turua meeting would be strongly in favour of the line.
Mr McMillan said that, practically
to a man, the residents on 'the Haiiraki Plains were anxious to see the line constructed.
