CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce was held last evening. In the absence of the president (Mr E. W. Porritt) the chair was occupied by Mr G. H. Taylor., The president and others were occupied elsewhere with River Commission work. ROAD WANTED. Mr E. Davis .asked 'that the Chamber should urge the Public Works Department to form and open the road from the northern end of the Mill Road, through Motungaep block, along the istop-barik to the junction with the Ngahina canal reserve. The secretary was instructed t? write to •the' assistant-engineer for Public Works on the matter, urging that the work be TRAIN STOPPAGES. Reference was made to the inconvenience caused by the Thames train which arrives at Paeroa at 5.30 p.m. stopping for 5 or 10 minutes at the crossing near Puke Road T’also that the Waihi train sometimes pulled out without coming up to the platform nt all. —Decided to interview the stationmaster. CATTLE TICK. A letter was received from the Agricultural Department stating that it had no leaflets on cattle tick. The Chamber decided to write further, asking the Department to provide such leaflets for distribution. Mr D. Munro said that starlings were very effective in killing out .the tick. The pests climbed up the long grasses, and got upon cattle, pigs, or' dogs. Various points of information were given, several of which were recent--1 • published in this paper.
