VALEDICTORY.
On Thursday evening last a deputation consisting of Messrs Underwood, Gunn, Wilton, and Darbyshire waited on Mr E. Todd, who is taking up his residence in Auckland, and tendered him a tribute from his fellow workers of the Department,. / Mr Underwood, in making .the presentation, said Mr Todd had always been a good fellow, and, while doing his duty, had earned the esteem and goodwill of his co-workeis. He had pleasure in presenting Mr Todd with a cheque from his mates and frienl? in the Department as some indication’ of their esteem, and trusted that bpeh Mr and Mrs Todd would succeed their new surroundings. They would be missed by a wide, circle of friends in Paeroa,
In responding, Mr Todd expressed his great surprise at the unexpected presentation. He assured the donors he would treasure the memory of the pleasant years spent in the Department among some of the best men > 2 had ever knoyvn. Both he and Mrs Todd were sorry to leave so many friends. He asked the deputation to convey the thanks of Mrs Todd and himself to the many subscribers whose kindness would never be forgotten.
