Farewell.

At the Masonic Hall last evening a farewell smoke concert was tendered to Bro. V. Earby, of the local Lodge, Loyal Hand of Friendship, No. 8010 of the 1.0.0.F.M.U., and to Mr A. Hogg who leave on Saturday for Trentham to rejoin the 10th Reinforcement, which leaves the Dominion about the middle of next month. Bro. W. Healey,N.G.,occupied the chair, and opened the proceedings by proposing the health of “The King,” The following items were then rendered : —Songs, Messrs Witter, J. Holland and Harrington ; Dance, Mr Roberts ; flute solo, Bro. Dyer; Duet, Messrs Green and Earby ; Song, Mr Woods, The “Boys at the Front” was proposed by P.G. Bro. Clout and responded to by Mr Hogg, who thought it was up to all eligible young men to go over and give them a hand- Song, Mr Stokes.

Bro. Clout proposed the health of Bro. Earby. He stated that over 500 Oddfellows.had enlisted and over 50 had been killed including two from this Lodge. He wished Bro. Earby a safe return, and on behalf of the Lodge, presented him with a pair of military brushes- Bro. Earby expressed his thanks in a feeling manner, and thanked all for a very pleasant evening, and hoped he would return in the near future. Song, Bro. J. Ashcroft. Bro. J. Clout proposed “ The Press, ” P.G. Bro. H. H. Sissons of Loyal Whangarei Lodge responding, and in doing so, wished the guests of the evening GodSpeed and a safe return. Song, Bro. Rennie. P.G. Bro. T. McQuillan proposed the health of ‘ The Ladies ’ coupled with the name of Mr Dyer, who did them ample justice in a short and humorous speech. Duet, Messrs Harrington and Earby ; Songs, Messrs. Winstone White and Hogg. The Army and Navy was proposed by Bro. J. Clout, and responded to by Bro. Dyer who said had it not been for the Navy possibly we would be in the same position as Belgium was to-day. Messrs. Farrimond and Dyer played the accompaniments in their usual efficient style. A vote of thanks to the Chairman and the singing of Auld Lang Syne and God Save the King brought a very pleasant evening to a close.
