Huntly Road Board
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Huntly Road Board was haiil on Saturday last, when L. B. Harris, junr., W. F. Parke! and W. D. Thompson were present. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown lands in regard to access to Secs. 229/232 Taupiri Ph., in which he stated that the answering of a former letter from the Board had been overlooked, and that he would be glad to consider any scheme the Board might propose for the improvement of the road of access to these sections. The Clerk reported that he had written to the Commissioner for a tracing of the locality, and that nothing further could be done until this was received. The District Engineer of Public Works wrote stating that his report on the Te Hoe and Orini Road was not yet available, as the matter had to go through the hands of the Engineer-in-Chief. The District Engineer also wrote stating that he was prepared to consider plans for the claying of a portion of the big swamp on the MatahuraTaupiri Road. The Clerk was instructed to make out the necessary plans and specifications. The arrangements made by the Board some years ago for the deviation of the ro?d between Secs. 23 and 24 were ratified and the Clerk was instructed to get the road surveyed and matter fixed up at the first favourable opportunity. Tenders were received as follows: — For earthwork at Mangapiko Gorge— J. Fleming, 1/6 per cub. yd. White Bros. 1/- „ „ „ Messrs White Bros, tender was accepted. Carting gravel in Matahura Gorge— B. Gill ss. The tender was allowed to stand over, being considered too high. The Clerk reported that he had written to Messrs Hill and McGaughran with regard to the allocation of the cost of cleaning the road and outfall drains at the Big Swamp and that Mr Hill had offered to contribute onethird of the cost of the outfall drain and one half the cost of the road drain, while Mr McGauhran had not answered. The Board decided to accept Mr Hill’s offer, and offer Mr McGaughran the same terms, failing compliance with which he to be debarred from using the Board’s drains.
