RUAWARO. [Own Correspondent.) A meeting of the Huntly West branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Pukenui school on the 18th inst. at 8 p.m. Mr R. MoEwan presided over a fair attendance. In view of the unpatriotic action of the Miners’ Union in passing a resolution against conscription, the Farmers’ Union passed a resolution in favour of conscription, and the secretary was instructed to forward it on to the Premier. As sufficient money has been promised for the new hall, it was decided to order timber for same at once, so that it may be constructed before the bad weather. The local school having been closed, it was decided to send a strong protest to the education board against their action, the next nearest school being over 5 miles away. The secretary was asked to write to the Provincial Executive expressing this branch’s disapproval of their action re the Fertilizer Co. The branch considering that the business should have been put through the Union or the Trading Assoc., instead of allowing the organization t obe used for the Provincial Secretary’s personal benefit. The following letter was read re land at Huntly West recently withdrawn from the ballot: —- The Secretary, N.Z. Farmers' Union, Huntly West Branch. In reply to your memo, of the 29th ultimo I have to inform you that the sections were withdrawn from sale in order to enable re-consideration to be given to certain matters in connection with their disposal, and they will be readvertised as soon as these points have been satisfactorily settled, which I trust will be at an early date, W. H. SKEET, Commissioner Crown Lands. Auckland, December, 1915. To Farmers who desire assistants in securing their harvests: — The Executive of the Union has received offers from the headmasters of the following schools in reference to boys over the age of sixteen, who have volunteered for harvesting work during their Christmas vacation : King’s College. Auckland Grammar Scbool. Wanganui Collegiate School. We will be pleased to hear from any members, or farmers, who are on the look-out for bright, intelligent and eager boys for harvesting during their holidays. This is a matter that will not admit of any delay, and therefore we would ask for prompt notice to be sent in either to the Union Office or to the Trading Asso - ciation. It will naturally be understood that a fair remuneration will be given by farmers to secure the services of these lads. A. SCHMITT, Prov. Secretary. Mr J. H. Furniss gave notice of motion, that a Ratepayers’ Association be formed.
