Farewell Social.
One of the largest attended socials in Huntly took place on 2nd December in the Miner’s Hall to bid farewell tc the following : Corporals Brown, Aitken, Harris and Hooker, Privates Jefferson, Timms, who are leaving for the front by the 9th Reinforcement. The chair was occupied by Mr Leather. Speeches were given by Messrs Leather and Hooxer. Vocal items were rendered by Miss Bartle and Mr J. Wesley junr., after which about 110 couples sat down to a supper which was catered for by the following ladies Mesdames Brooks, Allen, Thompson §<nd Wesley and Miss Redfern to whom great credit is due for the manner in which the tables were laid out. Also to the Huntly Orchestra who are always to the fore in giving their services to all patriotic gatherings and needy benefits. This society is ono that Huntly people should be proud of for their benevolent turn of mind. The evening’s enjoyment was brought to a close by the Chairman, Mr Leather, on behalf the gathering, wishing bon voyage to the brave noys departing to to the front. After which “ Auld Lang Syne ” and “God Save the King,” were sung by the whole gathering. The above social was got up by Messrs Leonard and Wesley to whom all credit is due. The sum of;£ls 9 Od was taken at the door and after all expenses were paid £8 8 Od was handed over to the local Sick and Wounded Soldier’s Fund, the accounts being audited and certified to be correct by the Clerk of the Town Board.
