Work is progressing so well at the Power Station, that there is a probability of the brickwork being finished and the roof on before ’Xmas. Messrs G. L. On Sunday evening the Vicar will conduct a mission service at St. Paul’s Church, and preach upon the subject “ The Second Coming of Christ and the War.” The Ninth Reinforcement left Tauherenikau Camp on Thursday morning at 3 a.m. across the Rimutaki Ranges for Trentham, and should arrive at "Wellington on Saturday, about noon. A social and Christmas sale of work in connection with the Presbyterian Church will be held in the Masonic Hall this Friday and Saturday, 17th and 18tlfi See dodgers, and advertisement. The following Huntly men left here on Monday evening to join the Eleventh Reinforement, at Frankton en route for Trentham Military Camp : Messrs H. S. Forbes, A. Woiwod, P. V. Furber. L. E. Starkey and J. Press. Mr J, McNee advertises in this issue that, he has an up-to-date stock of ’Xmas and New Year toys for the children, fancy goods jewellery, and ’Xmas cards in galore, also other articles too numerous to mention. Be in time and get the plums. As will be seen by reference to our correspondence columns Mr J. Melling is anxious to enter into a debate on the conscriprion question. Perhaps one of our readers will oblige him. If so we can promise that one an interesting time. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Limited, advertise a clearing sale at Pukemiro to-morrow (Saturday, 18th), the whole of Mr W. G. Tickle’s live and dead stock, will be offered. The sale commences at 12 o’clock. Of the four candidates presented by the Ohinewai School at the annual examination held at Huntly on Friday last, all succeeded in obtaining the Proficieny Certificate, one of the candidates sending up an especially good paper in arithmetic, with all sums right and very neatly and accurately set out. We would be obliged if all secretaries of local lodges, who hold their installations at the end, or the beginning of the year to notify us of the change in master or secretary ; aLo any intitutions which may have been overlooked, so as to enable us to make the Visitors’ Guide as complete as possible. It was inadvertently stated in our report of the public meeting on the case against conscription held in the Miners’ Hall, on Wednesday, December Bth, that Mr Geo. Aspinall acted in the capacity as chairman ot the meeting. It was Mr Jordan, Vice-president of the Huntly Miners’ Uuion. On Saturday at 1 p.m., Mr J. Elliot will sell by auction'at Mr W. Connor’s house a quantity of general household effects, and at the King’s Hall at 2.30 p.m., a quantity of new and second-hand furniture, pumps and piping, one gents’ bicycle, and a number of fowls as well as a quantity of new potatoes.
