Pukemiro.
A most successful basket social was held on Saturday last, to bid good bye to two of our men who are going to the front. The social was held in a place kindly, lent for the occasion, when Mr F. Raynor (an old Huntly resident), took the chair. A good number of citizens were present. The chairman in a few well .chosen remarks, handed to Mr Jefferson, a silver cigarette case and wristlet watch, and to Mr Walker a case of pipes. Songs were ably rendered by a number of citizens, also a few games were indulged in, which made a very pleasant evening. The township is still growing, building operations having been started by Mr F. Wilson, of Taupiri, and others and in a short space of time quite a number of houses will be in the course of erection. A citizens committee has been formed with the object of making the township reserve into a park, and working bees are being formed to clear ull dead timber away. —Correspondent.
