No. 4 Group Reinforcements.

The Chairman of the W ukato Patriotic Committee . .B. Manning) has toiegio j. . :- local committee, inform •; hem that the quota to be fun, shed by No. 4 'Group Area for the reinforcement leaving on December 14th was short in the Mounted Division by 14 and in the Infantry by 34, and asking for help in getting the vacancies filled. We believe that ; P the first time that the No. 4 ,4.r has been short of its requirements, and it is to be hoped that, before the 14th the quota wiii be fully made up. So far, the country districts have furnished most of lie men required to keep up the strength of the various reinforcements, and here is an opporh nity for some of the loyal yo . ir n of Huntly to show their by ai r by stepping into the breach No record has been kept of the number of men that I>;.,v left this Town, and it m y be that we have furnished our full number, but, looking ai um the streets on a Saturday after-coon and observing the up., of young men loitering at mt It is hard to believe that th t ' : .so, and in any case, no ; o it: man

has the right to shelfai 1 v-elf behind the doings .d o-.-iers. Even if ninety-nine out of a hundred young men had gone, that is no excuse for the hundredth to stay behind, if he is eligible to go. We trust that every young man will search his conscience thoroughly, and consider whether he is acting the part of a man while remaining behind in security at of others. Being advocates of the voluntary system as against conscription, they have here a fine opportunity to show their sincerity by volunteering.
