The Rev. A. J. Beck, formerly in charge of the Huntly Parish was a visitor to the mining town during the week.
Both Ralph’s and the Extended Mine only worked half a day on Thursday, owing to shortage of trucks.
We are glad to lean that the Rev J. Richards,who has been confined to the house for sometime, owing to sickness, is now able to be about again for a few hours each day.
A special Gospel meeting will be held in the Gospel Hall this evening at 7.30 p.m. Speaker—■ Mr Matthew Logg, from Scotland. A hearty invitation is extended to all. The nama of Mr F. Littleproud was inadvertently omitted from the list of those Huntly residents who were thanked for their kind assistance to the Kimihia Carnival. On and after December Ist, express trains will leave Auckland for Thames at 9.15 a.m., arriving at Thames 4.45 p.m. The Auckland - Rotorua train will leave Auckland at 10 a.m., arriving Rotorua at 5.22 p.m. On Sunday next at 3 p.in. there w ill be a service for men in St. Paul’s Church. The Auckland Dairy Committee has fixed the wholesale price for butter and eggs for the week ending November 27th as follows :—Farmers’separator and dairy butter, lOd per lb.; eggs lid per doz.
Mr A. Mclntosh, of Huntly, received a cablegram on Wednesdoy, to the effect that- his brother James (Field Artilery), died of shrapnel wounds in the back, on board the hospital ship Maheno, on Sunday, November 14th.
Mr Geo. Calder, manager of the Lyceum Pictures invites entries from local talent for the best impersonation of Charlie Chaplin to be run in conjunction with the pictures. Mr Calder will be pleased to give full particulars to intending applicants. A substantial prize is being given.
In this issue, the editor of “ The New Zealand Dairyman,” Mr F. W. B. Grevill, advertises the. rheumatic remedy that cured him after he had tried many treatments, including baths at Rotorua. It is not a patent medicine, but is the preparation of a celebrated English medical specialist.
The profit of Dalgety’s, Ltd for the year was £388,686. A dividend of 8 per cent, has been declared. £50,000 was placed to the reserve, and £40,000 written off the value of the company’s premisses. £IO,OOO was placed to the staff benevolent fund, and £208,686 carried forward. — Kawhia Settler.
Headquarters at Wellington asked for an ambulance draft of 42 men for Monday, and notices were sent out to those who were waiting to Jbe called up. The Rev. W. A. Watson, in charge of the Huntly Mothodist circuit, who sent in his name some time back left for Trentham Camp on Wednesday to report himself.
