Opening of Bowling Green
The official opening of the Huntly Bowling Green takes place, if Jupiter Pluvius pleases, to-morrow.
Considerable activity has been shown by a few of the members for months past, and the present forward state of the green and pavilion is due largely to their continued efforts. No doubt the other members of the Club will duly appreciate their self-denying labours. Owing to the long run of bad weather, and the lack of sufficent efficient labour, the pavillion is not in the forward state the members would desire, but it is probable the Club will at least ha a roof over its head by tomorrow.
As a general rule it takes well over a year to form and grass a bowling green, and it is worthy of note that the work on the Huntly Green was begun in June last, and so has taken only about four months to bring into its .present forward condition. Of course, the Green is yet far from perfect, and it will take some time, perhaps years, to make it so, but it is in good playable condition and that is all the members expect.
The time set down for the opening is 2.30 p.m., and the Club desires that all interested in bowling and croquet will avail themselves of the Club’s talit.yMembers of Bowling Clubs from the district round about have been invited to attend, and a big roll up is expected. We wish the Club well. The manner in which they have taciled the financial and other problems connected with the formation and launching of the Club, speak well for the courage and determination of the members, and we have no doubt they will have the success their enterprise deserves.
