ItUAWARO. Own Correspondent. A meeting of the Huntly West branch of the Farmer’s Union was held in the Pukemiro School on August 21st at 7.30 p.m. when the following members were present: — Messrs R. MeEwan (Chairman) A. Caley (Secretary) S. Lioyd, F. Capstick, C. C. Comins, J. Comins, T. Sefton, E. Sefton, F. Leek, J. Brown, A. Jamieson, A. McKinnon, J. Furniss, J. H. Furniss, J. Rasmussen, J. Mount, \\ C. Broughton and P. Caley. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Government, at the request of the Union, have decided to open the Cemetery Reserve in the district, and requested the Union to appoint trustees and

name it. The following trustees were appointed, Messrs J. Furniss, F. Capstick, J. Comins, F. Leek and G. Farmer. The name cf “ Rotongaro Cemetery” was decided on. The deputation appointed to meet the County Engineers to discuss the project of metalling the roads, gave their report. The Engineers estimate of cost was £I2OO a mile, he proposing to obtain the metal from Morningside. As it was it was thought that possibly the metal could be obtained locally, thus much reducing the cost. The deputation was asked to do a bit of prospecting in the district, and report at the next meeting. In the meantime it is hoped that the Council will be successful in obtaining a

£7OOO loan from the Government on the £1 for £l basis. A letter received frcm the Provincial Office was read, stating that W. Deaks, the organiser of the proposed Farmers’ Union Superphosphate Works, would give a lecture on the project and manures generally, on August 26. It was decided to invite Mr Deaks to lecture in the Waikokowai School, it being more suitable than the usual meeting place. Mr E. Sefton jr., one of the members of the Union, goes into camp at Trentham this week, he has the best wishes of all his fellow members. The next meeting of the Union will be held on September 25th at 8 p.m.
