The Defence authorities seem .to have decided that the Eighth Reinforcement shall go into camp at Trentham, whether the report of the Commission lias been brought down in tho meantime or not, Apparently, it is the intention of tho authorities to take the men to Trentham, to equip them there "and also train them there if the report of the Commission warants it, and to remove them to another camp if the leport is an unfavourable one. Seeing that the report will bo presented in a few days, it seems a mistake to take the men to Trentham on the chance of the report being favourable, as a subsequent shift must cost a good deal of money. The Defence authorities profess to believe that nothing in the report will bo unfavourable to tho men going into camp, but ' we cannot conceive how they can be able to forecast the re- < suit of the deliberations of the ‘ Commission, which we suppose would be strictly private. Although delay in getting the men started on their course of ’ training is to be deprecated, we ’ consider that this is one of the « occasions on which a little delay would be justifiable, and i even at this late day, it would be 1 a good thing if the authorities decided to delay the departure of the men until the report had i been received, i
