Mr Fean, Consulting Engineer, waited on. the Board with plans and specifiations of the work required to be done in connection with the installation of tho Electric Light. He pointed out that, in consequence of the extra boiler power required to drive the splendid electrical sot which had been so advantageously bought from the Auckland City' Council, the extra room required in the Power House, the increased cost of various materials, and the cost of the accumulators necessary to an all-night service, the cost of the scheme would be considerably increased, and he recommended the Board to go to the ratepayers for a supplementary loan of £2,000, to enable the scheme to ha carried out in its entirety, otherwise various items must he pared down in such a way as to impair the efficiency of the plant. Members were of opinion that it would by a mistake to put in anything but the best plant, and decided to place before tho ratepayers a proposal for the fur 1 her loan suggested. The Clerk was instructed to find out forthwith, whether an additional loan would he granted by the Public Trustee, and to proceed with the neccessary steps to obtain the ratepayers consent to the raising the loan. SITE FOR BOARD'S OFFICE The necessity for an increase in the size of the Board’s Office, which would be more keenly felt when the electric light was installed, was discussed. Previously', negotiations had been entered into with the Library Committee for .the Board to take over and admin-ster the Public Library, and to erect a combined Office and Library on the land on which both buildings now stood, which was to be supplemented by a gift of land from the Ralph Estate. These negotiations, I however, had fallen through, and an effort by' the the Chairman of the Board to induce the Library Committee to go on with the matter having failed, it was decided to secure a site elsewhere, and the Chairman was deputed to purchase a site if such could be done at a fair price. POWER HOUSE SITE. The deeds conveying the Power House Site front the Taupiri Goal Mines Ltd., to the ! Town Board was presented and I executed. An increase in carting rates owing to tho high mice of horse j Iced, was grants Ito D. Suttie. 1
