Mr J Turtou invites tenders in another column fcr the iron building known as the Miners’ Co-operative Store. Mr and Mrs G, M. Fraser entertained the members *of the Huntly Orchestra on Thursday evnning, and a very enjoyable musical evening was spent. A meeting was held in the Drill Hall L.st evening of those interested ir the holding of a demonstration in aid of the Wounded Soldiers Relief Fund. It was decided to hold a Grand Sunday Afternoon Demonstration on August 15th. Mr T. Porteous is secretary. The fortnightly Auction Sales as held by Mr J . Elliot have come to stay. They have proved of exceptional service to residents and settlers by enabling them to buy cheaply, and also to di-pose of whatever they can produce or do not require. The goods to be disposed of to-morrow (Saturday) are partly enumerated in our advertising columns. The following’ players have been selected to represent Huntly Rovers’ junior match on Saturday, at Huntly, against Ngaruawahia : Full-back, B. Paki ; ?'4, J. Callaghan, B, Ruston, W. Rus'on, D. We have received a copy of a new Patriotic Song entitled “The Soldier” wri’tan and composed by A. H. Light and arranged by R. Leslie Jones. The song has been sung with considerable success in Wellington, a squad of " Trentham Boys” having received great applause for their rendering of it at the Queens Carnival Coronation Concerts held recently. “The Soldier” goes wilii a good swing, and is ] a fine inarching chorus.

During the weak Mr J. Eliot has disposed of two properties in the town. Mr Shand has purchased that fine site with the shop, house, and bake-houso

erected thereon in which the bakery business of Messrs Shand and Rust is now being conducted, while Mr George Clinch is the buyer of a cottage in Hakanoa Street, lately owned by Mr H. R. Legg. The prices which have not transpired, are said to be substantial.

The Huntly Miners’ Union held a special general meeting on Wednesday evening last. The election of President, Vice-presi-dent, and one member of the Executive being the business of evening. Two nominations were received for President, Messrs J. Jones and W. Emery, late secretary, J. Jones being elected by 60 votes to Emery’s 15. For Vice-president, A. Jordan 59, W. Emery 15. Levi Allan and J. Harris were nominated for the vacancy in the Executive. L. Allan being elected.

After mature consideration, the Executive of Committee of the Liberal League has decided that it will be best to abandon the idea of holding a conference cf the branches of the League in Wellington during the present session of Parliament. As the duration of the session is so uncertain, and there are so many other matters of vast importance occupying the attention of the public at tho present time, the committee feels it will be consulting the general wish of members by postponing the gathering till a more convenient season.

Huntly business people will consult their own interests by studying the advertisement in this issue relating to the fine business sites, with Main Street frontages, and forming part of the Ralph Estate —which will be sold by Mr James Elliot in conjunction with Messrs Samuel Vaile and Sons, in the Auction Rooms of the latter, 87 Queen Street, Auckland, on Friday 13th August immediately after the arrival in the city of the first train from Auckland, namely at 2.30 p.m. The plans, which are works of art, are embellished with four fine photographs of more than local interest can he had on application either to Mr J. Elliot, Huntly, or to Messrs Vaile, Auckland.
