ROTONGARO.

(Own Correspondent.)

This week we have had a visit from the Government Engineer. He came to lay off the telephone line and the wires are to be laid to the liotongaro Bureau, the department have not lost much time about it, as the request has only just been sent in, and the work is started at once. When completed, practically all Huntly West will be linked up by wire. Mr Braithwaite has taken up a large block of Government land, near Whangape, and has already got a' lot of timber carted out there. I understand this is the last block of land the Government lias for disposal in this district. Mr Kennett, of Te Knit', is paying a visit to Mr A. C. White.

Farmers are busy getting in oats and grass seed. The shortage of fertilisers is of course a great handicap, as is also the price. It seems marvellous that insulated ships are being brou ht from England in ballast, while the fertiliser market is bare. Instead of ballast the ships ought to come hero loaded with Basic Slag, etc. The Government says, he patriotic and grow cereals, and yet they bring ships in ballast when they ought to bo loaded. Surely here is something for the provincial Farmers’ Union to rectify. Crops as a rule are looking exceptionally well.
