Football Match.

SOCCER: The local soccer team travelled to Pukekohe and engaged in a match agair.st the locals of that town on Saturday last. The weather waf good and the ground was in good order for a fast game. The game started before a fair crowd of spectators the Huntfy lads setting the pace from front the start, and the Pukekohe goal had several narrow escapes of falling to the eager Huntly forwards. The Pukekohe boys then came in for their turn of attacking, but the Huntly defence was equal to the occasion, the goal keeper being noticeable for his cool and timely clearances. Huntly leftwing was next conspicuous for some brilliant play. This wing was proving very effective and was giving the Pukekohe defence a hot time. Following up some grand play by the left wing the centre forward was left in possession of the ball near goal and made no mistake about the opening goal after 20 minutes play. After this reverse the Pukekohe team tried hard to get level, but with no result. The game was being hotly contested, each side attacking in turn and during a Huntly attack Timms got possession of the ball, dribbled through the Pukek he defence and finished by scoring with an excellent shot. Pukekohe forwards made desperate efforts to breakthrough, but with no success, and were still in the vicinity of the Huntly goal when the interval arrived. The result at half time was: Huntly 2 goals—Pukekohe nil. On resuming, Pukekohe started as though they were going to carry all before them this half, the Huntly defence being severely tested to keep out the Pukekohe forwards, but after continued pressure they were driven off. The Huntly forwards next came into prominence, and Gilbert following up a mistake by the Pukekohe back scored a third goal. After this the Pukekohe boys fell off considerably, ar.d first Timms and then Irvine scored in quick succession for Huntly. Towards the close, Pukekohe again came away and Guest scored their only goal five minutes from time. The end came with Huntly easy winners by five goals to 1 goal. The Huntly team all played well but E. Partington, J. Irvins, W. Timms, J. Douglas and W. Kerr are worthy of special menI tion. Y' The Huntly team were as '-follows: Goal, G. Padfield ; Backs, J. Porteous and D. Brown: Half backs. J. Devine, W. Timms, and J. Douglas; Forwards, A. Webb, W. Kerr, G. Gilbert, J. Irvine, and E. Partington. At a meeting held last week it was decided to add the following names to the list of vice-presi-dents: Major Kay, Messrs G. Calder, E. Marston, G. Edwards, and J. Lam on t. The club has made a good start and it is to be hoped the sporting public of the town will roll up and support it. The secretary is trying to arrange for a number of the Auckland first league teams to visit Huntly during the season. The club also anticipates entering for the Auckland Cup.
