Belgium Relief Entertainment.

A very successful entertainment in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund was held in the Miner’s Hall on Wednesday night. Although almost every night of the week was booked for seme entertainment, the hall on Wednesday evening was well filled the gallery being crowded ten minutes before the time to begin. The programme which consisted of pictorial, vocal, and dramatic items was up to a very high standard and won unanimous appreciation from the audience.

A very fine military picture “ The Prisoner of Zenda ” based on Anthony Hope’s popular novel was screened before the interval. The vocal items rendered by Messrs. Knapper, Welsey, Broadbent and Miss Leather; were of exceptional merit encores being accorded in every case. The concluding comedy aided by a number of boys, from the school, together with Mr J. Carmody was a succession of genuinely humorous incidents and kept the house a laughing from the rise of the curtain to the fall.' The youngsters took their parts splendidly and showed as little nervousness or stage fright as veteran players. Although the price of admission was only the usual for picture entertainments a sum of £lO 14s lid was realised so that after expenses are deducted quite a handsome donation can be made to the distress fund.
