WAT KOKOWAI. (Own Corresponeent). The dry season lias had a bid effect on farming operations out here, the oat crops especially having suffered, although a few crops, sown in the Autumn, have turned out very well indeed. Lamb shearing is now in full swing, Mr Broughton having finished his, and Messrs McKinnon and Jamieson only waiting for the weather to settle before starting theirs. Harvesting operations are just about finish d, and settlers all round arc very busy getting in their swede crops. The showery weather experienced lately has brought the early sown crops on very rapidly, and with ordinarily good weather, there should be an abundance of roots for next winter. Mrs Rasmussen, who has been in Hamilion Hospital for some time, and has undergone two severe operations is reported to he progressing very favourably, and is expected home in about a* fortnight. ol llio school we held a picnic, which proved to be most enjoying a prize. In the dance in aid of the Belgian Fund was held in the schoolroom.
