Bowling.

On Saturday last a party of Huntly bowlers journeyed to Ngaruawahia to try conclusions with the bowlers there. The Huntly party consisted of Dr McDiarmid, senr., and Messrs J. P. Bailey, A. E. Mathews and F. H arris, and they were opposed to Messrs Hetherington, Marsland, Paterson and Thorpe. The weather was delightful and the green in excellent condition and an interesting and enjoyable game was played. Mr Hetherington skipped the Ngaruawahia team and Mr Mathews the Huntly team. Two of the Huntly team were new at the game, both having commenced this seidjon and one having played only four games previous to Saturday.

Huntly started well by scoring two at the first head, and at the third head the score was Huntly 7, Ngaruawahia nil. The game then proceeded with varying success and at the tenth head the scores were even. Ngaruawahia then got into the lead, but by steady play the Huntly men succeeded in making the scores levol at the nineteenth head. They then had a run of bad luck, Ngaruawahia scoring two on the twentieth head and four on the last, thus running out winners by a margin of six. With the exception of one or two heads, play was very even, the new chums having a day out ane playing up in a way that surprised themselves and the older players. A feature in the play was Hetherington’s fine driving, which time and again got his side out of difficulties and indeed was the ultimate cause of Iluntly's. defeat. Athough beaten, the Huntly team was very pleased with the showing it had made and is determined to try conclusions with Ngaruawahia again at an early dato, when they hope to turn the tables on their opponents.
