Huntly Road Board.

The adjourned meeting of tho Huntly Road Board, was held on Saturday last, when Messrs. J. P. Bailey, L. B. Harris, junr., and W. F. Parker were present. A letter was received from the District Engineer of Public Works, approving of the Board’s action with regard to the Mangatea Road. One tender for the cutting and filling on Matahuru-Taupiri Road near the Manga wiiara Stream was received. The clerk pointed out that, owing to the tightness of money caused by the crisis in Europe, it might be difficult to obtain the money from the Government to carry out this work, and that it might be well to ascertain ■ the position before the Board : committed itself to the work. 1 It was resolved to accept the tender subject to the approval o» the Public Works Department, the clerk to ascertain as soon as possible, the attitude to be taxen up by the Department. A request from the settlers at ■ Kimihia, that the Board should take up the matter of obtaining a siding at Kimihia Station, was received. Amongst the correspondence submitted was a letter from the Minister of Railways stating that the siding would be maintained by the Department provided the Road Board found a sum of £3O for the construction of a road of access. It was pointed out that no road of access was needed, the Siding having been used for many years without inconvenience. The Board decided to do its best to push the matter forward and instructed the clerk to write to the minister of railways, laying the position clearly before him. Owing to the slowness of the Valuation Department in correcting the Valuation Roll this year, the General Rate will be struck a month later than usual. As the former notice of motion had lapsed, the chairman again gave notice to move at the next meeting of the Board, that a general rate of )■£ in the £ be struck. Accounts amounting to £7B 14s 5d were passed for payment.
