How to Recite.
“ Australia and New Zealand are full of aspiring reciters and public speakers,” says W. A. Somerset in the July issue of Life,” just to hand, and in order to satisfy some at least of the aspirations of theso wouldbe orators Mr Alexander Watson, the famous English elocutionist, explains in an interview his methods of vocal training and elocution. In the same issue of “ Life ” an Australian traveller continues his articles on hunting and trading in South Africa, and describes exactly what it costs in time, money, and energy to equip a big-game shooting expedition in the regions of the upper Zambezi and the Congo, where such game as hippo, lions, and the multitudinous antelopes offer themselves. It seems that a five months—two months on voyage and three months’ actual hunting could be covered by £450 ; that is travelling in style. But the expenses may be cut down to amount to about £2OO by anyone who knows the ropes. Hunting of another kind —that is with the camera in place of the gun is described in this issue of “ Life ” by Charles Barrett, who takes the reader on a little journey through an Ibis rookery in the Riverina, and shows him many wonderful things. We note that the editor has secured another lino serial story by Jack London, and from the opening chapters we gather it is a story of the sea, full of striking pictures, and written in the style of which Jack Lund'm is master. Dr Fitch ett’s review he topics of the month at he tnd abroad and the arrange! s of a dozen or more articles noth sides of the Home Rule stion make good reading.
