Poultry and Dog Show.
The second annual show or- 1 ganised by the Huntly Poultry and Kennel Club was held in the King's Hall on Friday and Saturday of last week. The entries were large in both dog and poultry classes, while the quality of the exhibits left nothing to be desired, Bulldogs were well represented, though the fox terrier classes were somewhat disappointing. All classes of poultry were up to standard, the competition being so keen that it took the judge some considerable time to place the birds. Canaries and cage birds were not so numerous as last year, but quality and variety somewhat made up for number. Judging started early on Friday . morning and was finished about 2.30 when the president of f he club, Mr L. B. Harris, junr., rrmally opened the show. Mr [arris paid a deserved comlimenttothe committee, whose rrangements were excellent and dross work had so greatly facil;ated judging operations,- He congratulated the prize-winners, and welcomed the exhibitors to Huntly, expressing the hope that they would enjoy their brief stay in the mining town. He especially mentioned the secretary, Mr W. Riggans, who had carried out his onerous duties in a remarkably able manner, and complimented the judges on the impartial and skilful way in which they had performed their tasks. The attendance during the two days was fair, but not so large as had been anticipated, nor was it proportionate to the worthiness of the cause. However, all round satisfaction was expressed, which was accentuated when the judge selected Mr W. Thomas’ Idstone Lady Asthore as the best dog in the show, and Mr W. Kelly’s Rock’s Belle as the best local dog exhibited. Mrs Bedford’s Mexican terrier was greatly admired, while Mr Kelly’s pointer, which swept the board at the Hawkes Bay Show, was the subject of much flattering comment. The selections played by the Brass Band were much enjoyed, and contributed greatly to the success of the show. Appended is the prize list: — POULTRY. Game (British), black red cock; J.
