Invitations have been issued by the Huntly bachelors for the ball that will take place in the Miner’s Hall on the evening of Last Sunday Mr and Mrs E. Rosser lost their second infant boy —a sad loss that has evoked very general sympathy for the bereaved ones. Good progress is being made with the houses being built for Messrs. Aston and Kerr, the former by Mr C. C. Porter, and the latter by Mr J. V. Johnson. The recently compiled roil of ratepayers contains the names of 312 persons, all of whom are entitled to vote on the loan proposals. A large number of Huntly people participated in the enjoyable social with which the new halt at Ohinewai was formally opened on Wednesday last. A meeting of the members of the Huntly Sports club will be held in the King’s Hall oil the evening of Thursday, 16th. July, when important business will be discussed. Before going to the poll ratepayers should carefully read the leaflet issued by the chairman of the Town Board in explanation of the purpose of the loan. The secretary of the Brass band desires to acknowledge the handsome donation received from Mr and Mrs L. B. Harris, Senr, of Harrisville. The arrival during the week of twins in the camp of one of j the men employed on the Huntly Awaroa railway brought joy to the happy and more than contented parents. In the Extened Mine during the week Messrs Arthur Webb and John Reid sustained minor accidents : the former, an abraded and contused foot ; and the latter an eye injury. Next Saturday 18th. inst. Mr Elliot will sell, for removal, the creamery building, Kimihia, as well as a dray, horses, fowls, farm produce, (cohiprisiug potatoes, pumpkins, and cabbages), etc., etc. A poll of the ratepayers will be taken to-morrow on the Town Board’s proposal to borrow £6OOO wherewith to instil an electric plant. The library will be the polling-place, and Mr F. Harris will act as Returningofficer. Weather permitting, the Brass band will give an open air concert on Sunday afternoon on the west bank of the river. By special request Mr D. Wentworth will play “ Mary of Aigyle ” as a cornet solo. Owing to assiduous and constant practice the progress being made by the Band is most marked. To-morrow (Saturday) at 3 p.m. several cases of oranges, and lemons will be sold by public auction, as well as a quantity of household furniture, and several bags of potatoes and pumpkins together with a fine Rexophone. For further particulars see advertisement. Next day they failed to appear at court, thus forfeiting bail, one to the tune of five, and the other two of ton shillings. Mr E. J. Farrell J.P. was oix the beiich. At the end of host week the electric plant installed at the new coxal mine at Pukemiro was subjected to the preliminary tests which were carried out under the supervision of Mr E. S. Wight, manager, and Mr Fennconsulting engineer to the company. The results were in every case most satisfactory, the new machinery, which was subjected to the load it would be expected to carry, responding as if it had been in action for some time.
