Huntly Road Board.

usual monthly meeting of Huntiy Road Board was hern on Saturday when there were present Messrs .T. P. Bailey (chairman), L. B. Harris, junr., W. F. Parker, W. D. Thompson, and the clerk, Mr F. Harris. In a letter to the Board Mr T. W. Rhodes, M. P., stated that the Minister of Public Works had agreed to grant £3OO as a £ 1 for £1 subsidy on the work to be done on the Taupiri Gorge road, and asked to be informed whether the Board was prepared to accept the grant on the -subsidy basis. Should the Board prefer a straight out grant, he would do his best to obtain it. The Assistant Under-Secre-tary for Public Works notified the Board that the Minister had agreed to the subsidy, which was the only way in which he could assist the Board, as the work was largely of the nature of accumulated maintenance work. The amount already spent on the maintenance oi this road averaged more thai four times the amount of rate.' collected, while the metal whicl had been down for some fift; years, was beyond maintenance so that it, was now urgently ne cessary to straighten, widen metal and fence the road on oni side. Mr D. S. McKenzie complaine of the state of the road from til cutting to his gate, and of tb condition of the cutting roun Mclntyre’s hill.
