HUNTLY V, NG ARUAWAHIiThe two teams met for th second time this season at Nga ruawahia where the local me gained a deserved victory b; five points to three after a hard fast and clean game wliic! showed that there was little, i anything, between the two sides After Huntly had kicked ot against a fairly strong wind Ngaruawahia organised a verj effective attack which Huntl; was obliged to render nugator; by forces, four coining after eac! other in rapid succession. Nga ruawahia had the be f ter of the game at the start, Henderson’: shot at goal from a mark by Bilkey just failing to go between the posts. Huntly now began tc play with more cohesion, several fine forward rushes failing on account of faulty play. Ngaruawahia, after somo give and take play, were obliged to adopl the force to prevent a score Penalised frequently for breaches of the rules, and with a determined attack to oppose, the tables for a long time were turned, Mahuta’s three shoes at goal—all kicked at a very acute angle—proving futile. A free kick to the local players relieved matters . considerably, while a kick from a mark, well ' f ollowed up, gave R. Fuller an jpportunity foi a pot at goal. It proved unsuccessful, but as the ball rebounded, Sprague secured, and, stalling off all opponents, scored near the posts, Henderson's task in adding the major points being an easy one. Half time sounded immediately thereafter, leaving the game — Ngaruawahia, 5 Huntly 0 With the wind in their favour Huntly resumed with a vigorous attack, and had the local men in difficulties from the jump. Raynor missed a goal from a penalty kick, and Ngaruawahia eased matters by forcing. The local men now asserted themselves, and transferred play to their opponents’ territory. After a series of free kicks Huntly returned to the attack, and by the excellent play of Amaru at full back a score was averted again and again. From the loose play that ensued about lalf way, Huntly got in a long ick, and following up rapidly carried the ball over the line, Raynor failing to convert. Ngaruawahia, 5 Huntly, 3 Thencsforward give and take was the the ordsr, the advantage being slightly against Huntly in whose 25 the ball was when the wliistle'sounded no game. Mr W. Parkes acted as referee. For the winners Amaru at full back played a consistently fine game, the state of the score against his side being in great measure due to his sterling efforts. Bilkey at half also played in fine form, while of the forward division Haddon, W. Fuller and Hutt were most conspicuous. For Huntly H. Peckiiam was solid, his game proving as useful as it effective and well - timed. Pawson at full back showed up to greater advantage than usual, w' ; le the forwards showed more ' sion and made fewer mises than in former games. Both teams were evenly .Hatched, the game depending on the least bit of luck falling to either side. JUNIORS. TAUPIRI Y HUNTLY. The Taupiri and Huntly juniors met on the Taupiri ground last Saturday. The game was rather a ragged one and the referee — well, to say the least — was not a success. Just before half time Tini Wharepapa, playing half for Taupiri, whipped out on the ’‘blind” side to Doyle who scored. Near the end of the second spell some good play by the Huntly full back (who, by the way, plaved a perfect game) enabled Ruston to score for Huntly, and the game ended three all. If Junior malches are to be a success, then the Rugby League must supply referees who can control the game. The juniors match, Moehaki v Ngaruawahia, as played at Ngaruawahia last Saturday, ended in a win for the native ‘ ram by three points to nil. SCHOOL MATCHES. On Saturday morning the Taupiri schoolboys met the Orini boys at Taupiri. After a fast and interesting game, Taupiri proved victorious by 17 points to 11. On Saturday the Huntly and Ngaruawahia school teams met at Huntly. After a somewhat one sided game the local boys proved victorious by 25 points to
