Mrs H. A. Clinch, Hakanoa Street, returned trom the Waikato Hospital on Saturday last. Mr S. Dixon, president of-the Taupiri Miners’ union, left for Waihi on Saturday last. Mr L. MaCalman, of the Post Office, who has been on a holiday, is expected to resume duty to-morrow. Mr R. Greenwell, manager of the local Brick and Fire-clay Co., left by yesterday’s express on a visit to Ohura Valley. Mrs J. Brooks, Huntly South, who for the last fortnight has been on the sick list, is now is convalescent. Mr Boyd Bennie, Government Inspector of Mines, left Huntly by Saturday’s express after concluding his periodical inspection of the Taupiri Mines. Mr A. A. Ross, Te Kauw - u i has been elected one of the presidents of the Auckland branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union. During the week Mr T. W. Rhodes, M.P., addressed several meetings in this portion of his electorate. He was in Huntly on Monday. - Mrs R. Skellern is making an excellent recovery from the illness which necessitate! a somewhat serious operation. She is now able to be up for an hour or two every day. Miss Ralph has been good enough to consent to open the Grand Rainbow Fair in connection with the Presbyterian Church at 2. 30. p. m. on Monday, B‘h June. Mr T. A. Hyde has just been notified to the effect that he has been appointed assistant superintendent of the A.M.P. Society with head quarters at Hamilton, as from July Ist. Mr Hyde, who has worked this district very successfully during the past fifteen months, will still continue to pay periodical visits to the mining town. Mr Win. Lntener, a former
Huntly resident. who now resides in Morrinsville, after a trip round the western Raglan district, was in Huntly on Tuesday. He received a warm welcome from many old friends. It wis Mr Latiner who liberated the first trout set free in this neighbourhood. It is now quite eighteen years ago since he placed rainbow trout fry in the Waikato river and in the Matahura creek. Master Philip Starr, who has been connected with the local post office for some time, has been promoted to the position of junior exchange clerk in the Whangarei Post Office. By his uniform courtesy and obliging nature Master Starr has made many friends in Huntly whose best wishes for his future success he will carry with him to the northern metropolis.
