Huntly Town Board.
The usual monthly meeting of the’ Huntly Town Board was held on Thursday evening when there were present Messrs J. P. Bailey (chairman), G. *T. Horwood, J. Elliot, and the clerk, Mr F. Harris, The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed and the outward correspondence approved. The secretary,of the Municipal Association in informing the Board that the annual conference of delegates of local bodies would be held during July in Wellington, asked that remits on matter the Board desired to bring forward should be sent to him at once. The Board decided that as no matter of special urgency had cropped up, it was unnecessary to send any remit. As requested by the Board, the Secretary of the Taupiri Coal Mines, Ltd., stated that his directors had agreed to reserve from sale the allotment through which the road to the railway crossing in the northern end of the town would run. He also advised the Board thatthe cross road on the northern boundary of section 10 was -in process of formation, and that access was being given from that road. His Company, the secretary slated, was prepared to sell to the Board for use as a site for the proposed power station allotm mts and 83 (opp >site Dr Low’s res^im;ce). at Government valuation, iSmely £65 and £7O respectively, this offer to rein :i i n ope n u nti l\ 11th June. The chairman moved that the Company be asked to leave the offer open until a poll of the ratepayers had been taken on the electric lighting scheme. Seconded by Mr Elliot, the motion was carried. Letters were received from Messrs Turnbull and Jones, who offered to report on the proposed lighting scheme, and from Mr E. J. Fenn, who offered his services as consulting engineer. The letter enclose! a letter from the Ngaruawahia Town Board thanking him for the manner in which lie had carried out Ms duties in connection with the lighting of Ngaruawahia. The Public Trustee wrote to the effect that a loan of £6OOO at s ]/z per cent, per annum, plus one per cent sinking fund could be arranged, the loan to extend over a period of not less than thirty six years. It, was the practice for the office solicitor to supervise t he proceedings, and to prepare all the necessary documents at a fee of of 2/6 per cent, on the amount granted With a minimum of £3 3;-. If the terms were approved by the Board, information was wanted on the following:1. The Rateable value of the area; 2. The amount of the special rate ; 3. The annul amount produced by the special rate ; 4. The total loan liabilities of the Town Board in respect of the rating area ; 5. In what instalments, and on w-liat dates the loan (if granted) would be required. The offer would lapse if not accepted within 21 days. Mr N. M. Steele offered to procure the loan desired on the usual terms, the interest payable being, probably, per cent. It was decided to reply that the Board intended to make other arrangements.
