Miss K. Macdiarmid left Huntly on Monday last to take up scholastic work in Auckland. Mrs F. James, who spent th o week end with Mr and Mrs R. James, William street, left for Ilelensville on Monday. Mr J. Lamont, the recently appointed director cf the School of Mines, who arrived in Huntly on Wednesday, will be ready to start work on April Ist. Col. Loveday, late Officer Commanding the Public School Cadets, broke his journey at Huntly yesterday, in order to shake hands with his former officers. A good portrait of Mr S. Dixon, President of the Taapiri Miners’ Union, appears i:i the initial number of “ Reason,” a new monthly devoted to the principles of fundamental democracy, Mr Thos. Walsh is the Managing Editor of the new venture. Mr R. F. Bollard, M.P., when in Huntly on Wednesday night, called in at the meeting of the Sports Committee, and, after expressing his sympathy with the movement, and his best wishes for its success, assured tiie committee of his personal attendance. Mr Bollard received a particularly hearty reception. At the last meeting of the Sports Committee Messrs W. J. Burgess and E. A. Jones were elected honorary auditors. So excellent a recovery is Mrs Mrs H. Peckham, Huntly West, making that she will, it is expected, be able to return from the Hospital in about a fortnight. Among this week’s visitors to Huntly were Dr. Averill, Anglican Bishop of Auckland, and the Rev. Mr Avery and his wife. Mr Avery who labourel so successfully in Huntly some years ago received a hearty welcome from the members of his old congregation, all of whom at the time deplored his departure" to undertake mission work in New Guinea. Mr A. J. Parkes, son of Mr J. A. Parkes, Hakatioa Street, and Miss Farrar, only daughter of Mr Wm. Farrar, Huntly South, were united in the bonds of matrimony at Hamilton on Wednesday. After the ceremony the happy pair who were the recipients of a large number of handsome and useful presents, proceeded to Auckland where they will spend they honeymoon.
