Huntly Brass Band.

5 A meeting of the Brass Band ■) and citizens’ committee elected _ to help the Band was held in the Kings’ Hall on Monday night, Mr Jas. Fletcher, president of the J Band, presiding over a fair attendance. Apologies for abd sence were read from Messrs J. .... J is. , Elliot. The Rev. Father Cahill r who was also present was un- [ fortunately called away. - The resignation of Band master : Clark was accepted with great ! regret, and the appointment of a - successor discussed, though no f finality was reached. At the suggestion of Mr W. H. Bailey it was decided to ask the Town Board to call a meeting of citizens for an early date with a view to stimulating more interest in the Band, and, especially, to • secure the services of a capable ' conductor. It was also decided to take steps to promote an . | annual picnic, and to do whati ever was necessary to keep the > Band together. The i of opinion that a fund to guarantee a small salary to a couduc- [ tor—say £3O or £40 —would be t forthcoming from tiie citizens who generotta appreciation of the musical services rendered by the Band on all occasions. With a good , | conductor ti e band would succeed, as the material on which a conductor had to work was equal to that f un 1 in any town of a size similar to Huntly. The generous and spontaneous offer of Mr L. B. H arris, junr., to donate five pounds annually to the purpose was accepted with many thanks, and the hope expressed that this handsome donation would excite emulation j in other citizens.
